Things I Have Done Today
1. Laundry (a work in perpetual progress)
2. Jogged (or "ran", if you prefer) behind the kids on their bikes to school.
3. "Tucked husband in".
4. Rode bike as far as the brewery, which took 15 minutes. Looks like the park with the old tugboat is doable on bikes. Woo! Made notes to go for another solo ride soon to see how far I can get in 15 minutes in another direction.
5. Rode to pick up DS. Remembered that DS needs a helmet (his bike was chained at the school).
6. Returned home and back to school again with helmet in somewhat less than 9 minutes.
7. Was rude to very nice Grade 3 teacher*.
8. Felt guilty.
9. Called other volunteer mom (OVM) to confess.
10. Felt better, somewhat.
*Conversation:
Me: So why did we pick up all those hot dogs on Monday?
Note: OVM and I I go shopping for the Breakfast Program on Mondays. Everyone knows this. If you let us know in advance, we will pick things up for you, like hot dogs and buns and freezies for 60 kids. Even if by "in advance", we apparently mean "just as we're walking out the door on Monday".
Note 2: At the same time, OVM was asked to cook and serve the hot dogs, etc. Because we have nothing better to do with our lives. She said yes, but then remembered she has an eye appointment that day. She says that when she told Other Grade 3 teacher, the teacher looked at her as if to say "Well, how can we do this, then?" Well hey. Tell you what. You've had this planned for some time, right? Let us in on it with more than a couple day's notice. We're busy, believe it or not. Or hey. Do it your-freaking-selves.
Her: Oh, we're having a track meet on Friday for all the Grade 3's.
Note: Apparently, it's more of a graduation party, since all the Grade 3's will be moving on to another school next year.
Her: We're going to need juice boxes, too.
Me *smiling, and without thinking*: Well, you'll have to do that yourselves; we're done. Well...there's one more shopping day on Monday and then that's it.
More perfectly pleasant conversation followed and we went our separate ways. But now I wish I hadn't said that. Just because I'm feeling put-upon doesn't mean I should say the first thing that pops into my head. Honestly, sometimes I just have no internal censor.
Now I have confessed my rudeness for all the Internet to see.

6 Comments:
Under the circumstances I thought you were quite restrained.
She needed a can o' whoop ass. Really, she did.
I sure hope you did this before report card time. *grin*
Scratch that last comment; I meant "AFTER" report card time.
*laughs at Puffy*
1. A day without laundry is like a day without... well, a care in the world I guess.
2. So all the neighbours think you were chasing them?
3. This is Code, right?
4. - 6. Bike riding is good exercise, and easier on your knees than running. Why didn't you bike to school with the kids instead of chasing them?
7. - 10. You are allowed to be rude to a clueless, imposing teacher. You are not her personal assistant! You are a busy mom who tries to make time so school can be the best experience possible for her kids. This is reality, not wanton rudeness.
Sometimes not having a brain/mouth filter is invigorating! Maybe she'll think about it and do better next time.
*slaps Seana's wrist
*wonders if he can get LC to tuck him in ;-)
